Algeria continues its path towards Agricultural Development

8 October 2013, Rome, Italie - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva congratulated Algerian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Abdelwahab Nouri for his recent appointment in a meeting yesterday in Rome.

Graziano da Silva noted with satisfaction that Algeria was one of the FAO members that received an achievement award during the last FAO Conference for the progress made in reducing the prevalence of undernourishment to less than 5%.

Amongst other issues, Graziano da Silva and the Minister discussed a regional project that addresses the introduction and production of Quinoa in Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Iran (IR), Lebanon, Mauritania, Sudan and Yemen.  A full Country Programme Framework has also been prepared jointly by the Algerian authorities and FAO and is about to be put into action.
