Director-General expresses gratitude for Hungarian contribution to the International Year of Family Farming

4 March 2014, Budapest – On the eve of the Global Forum and Expo on Family Farming, taking place this week in Budapest, FAO Director-General Jose’ Graziano da Silva met with Hungary’s Minister for Rural Development Sandor Fazekas.

Graziano da Silva expressed gratitude for the firm support of the Government of Hungary in organizing in partnership with FAO the first-ever global forum on family farming.  The Global Forum and Expo – dedicated to the International Year of Family Farming – drew hundreds of delegates from around the world.

The Director-General informed the Minister about events planned for the coming year in connection with the International Year.

Graziano da Silva also referred to FAO’s very productive and efficient cooperation with Hungary – especially important in view of the Organization’s Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia located in Budapest.

He praised the Hungarian Government for its efforts to develop school feeding programmes in Hungary, underscoring that this experience was valuable and should be shared with other countries and regions.

The Minister emphasized the Hungarian Government’s commitment to developing its relations with FAO, and expressed support for the transformational process of FAO undertaken under the leadership of Graziano da Silva and supported by Member States.
