26 March 2014 Tunis, Tunisia - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met today with the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Donald Kaberuka, on the sidelines of FAO’s 28th Regional Conference for Africa in Tunis.

Kaberuka commended FAO's work in Africa through the years, as well as Graziano’s commitment to advancing the challenge of hunger eradication.

Both discussed ways the two agencies can renew their partnership and find new technical areas where they can support each other's efforts in the coming years.

The points raised underscored the importance of managing land issues in view of large investments taking place in Africa; adequate water and marine resources management; addressing the needs of the pastoralist sector; and seeds improvements to all African countries, with special emphasis on the Sahel region and the Horn of Africa.

They also agreed to work together on the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests, as well as supporting capacity development on the Responsible Agriculture Investment (RAI) for domestic and foreign investors.

The AfDB was founded in 1964 to promote sustainable economic growth and reduce poverty in Africa. Its activities include mobilizing and allocating resources for investment in regional member countries and providing policy advice and technical assistance to support development efforts.
