22 September 2014, New York - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva paid a courtesy call to Sam Kahamba Kutesa, who was elected President of the United Nations General
Assembly’s sixty-ninth session on 11 June 2014.

Kutesa was serving as Uganda’s Foreign Affairs minister when he got elected as the General Assembly President.

During the meeting, the President praised the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for its work, particularly in the ongoing processes related to sustainable development goals and the Post 2015 development agenda.

Both FAO Director-General and the President noted that a new development agenda must take into account agriculture, not only for food security reasons, but also for the role agriculture plays in employment and livelihoods, particularly in developing countries.

Kutesa expressed that he looked forward to working with FAO during his Presidency.  Graziano da Silva congratulated the President on his election, and invited him to attend The Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2), an inclusive inter-governmental meeting on nutrition jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in Rome between 19-21 November 2014.
