Sierra Leone Agriculture Minister briefs FAO Director-General “improving” ebola situation

Talks with Graziano da Silva center on building resilience of local rural households

24 March 2015, Rome - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva today met with Sierra Leone Agriculture Minister, Joseph Sam Sesay, to discuss progress on the ebola situation, which deeply affected food security in the country.

The outbreak of the Ebola virus disease in May 2014 severely affected Sierra Leone and the neighboring countries Guinea and Liberia, resulting resulting in thousands of deaths and adversely impacting agriculture and food security.

The outbreak is unprecedented in scale and geographical scope.  FAO, through its Regional Response Programme, is working with countries to respond to Ebola, to protect lives and livelihoods and to safeguard food security and nutrition.
