Nepal shares National Zero Hunger Challenge experience at FAO

The country launched the initiative to eradicate hunger by 2025

26 March 2015, Rome – Representatives from the government of Nepal shared at FAO their political commitment and experience in the national Zero Hunger Challenge at a side event celebrated on the occasion of the 151st Session of the FAO Council.

Launched in December 2015 with the collaboration and support of the United Nations, the ZHC is a major initiative to eradicate hunger in the Himalayan country by 2025.

Nepal is one among the few countries in the world that incorporate the "right to food" in its Constitution. The Constitution has adopted "food sovereignty" as a fundamental right of people.

FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met the Joint Secretary and Chief of Policy and International Cooperation Division & Chair of Nepal’s National Zero Hunger Challenge Initiative, Rajendra Adhikari, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Agricultural Development of Nepal, Uttam K. Bhattarai, to discuss progress made in the fight against hunger and food insecurity.
