4 June 2015, Expo Milan (Italy) – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva today met with Moldova’s Minister for Agriculture and Food Industry, Ion Sula. The two principals met on the margins of the International Agricultural Forum at EXPO Milan, attended by more than 50 agriculture ministers and delegates from more than 100 countries and international organizations.

“We are very pleased to continue our collaboration with FAO,” the Minister said in remarks after the meeting, noting that since April 2015 FAO is officially present in Moldova with offices in Chisinau.

FAO’s Director-General and Minister Sula discussed Moldova’s priorities in the fields of food and agriculture, which include increasing the country’s competitiveness and organizing family farmers -60% of Moldovan farmers are small farmers, noted the Minister- to help them move from subsistence agriculture to a more commercial model.

“We also want to develop research and education for our farmers and to develop the food safety system,” the Minister added.
