Norway and FAO share focus on food security, sustainable agriculture and climate change

Norway’s Minister for Agriculture and Food in talks with FAO’s Director-General

8 June 2015, Rome – Norway’s Minister for Agriculture and Food, Sylvi Listhaug, and FAO Director-General, José Graziano da Silva, held talks today that focused on fighting hunger, promoting sustainable agriculture and addressing climate change.

“This is my first visit to FAO so I was very interested to learn about the work that the Organization is doing, and what is on the agenda,” Minister Listhaug said following her meeting with Graziano da Silva.

The discussions also centred on the Sustainable Development Goals including the eradication of hunger, which will be introduced later this year and will set the global development agenda in the decades to come.

Listhaug said she also raised her country’s concerns over the risks of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). When antimicrobials are misused for treatment and prevention of diseases in livestock sector, aquaculture as well as crop production actions they are often associated with the potential risk of emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistant micro-organisms
