Russia to increase support for the Global Soils Partnership and nutrition

9 June 2014, Rome, Italy - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met with Gennady Gatilov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, to discuss the priority areas for cooperation.

During the meeting, the Director-General expressed his gratitude to the Government of the Russian Federation for supporting his re-election.

The Deputy Minister confirmed that Russia continued to increase its financial support to FAO’s activities, including the recent approval of $1m to support the Global Soils Partnership and the International Year of Soils 2015.

Gatilov also highlighted Russia’s interest in supporting FAO’s activities focused on improving nutrition.

Graziano expressed appreciation of Russia’s BRICS Presidency for attaching high importance to food security and nutrition.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the FAO's governing Conference meeting in Rome this week.
