Meeting with Rwanda's Minister of Agriculture

"Support to young people is critical"

8 April 2016, Abidjan - FAO Director-General met with Rwanda's State Minister for agriculture, Tony Nsanganira, on the sidelines of FAO's Regional Conference. 

Rwanda has started mainstreaming the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its government agenda, while FAO is supporting the country on their implementation. 

"Support to young people is critical," Nsanganira said. "Around 1 000 people graduate from technical schools and unviersities each year in Rwanda and the government looks forward to supporting these qualified young people to get involved in agriculture and apply newly learned technologies." 

The Minister thanked FAO for the Africa Solidarity Trust Fund and its support to development projects in Rwanda.

Rwanda’s  State Minister and the Director-General also discussed the International Year of Pulses and the opportunity it gives to highlight the contribution of these nutritious foods to healthy diets around the globe. Special events in the country will be organized to celebrate the year.
