Uzbekistan Ambassador in talks with FAO Director-General

Focus on agricultural diversification

4 May 2016, Antalya, Turkey — Meeting with the Director-General here today, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Turkey Ulfat Kadirov expressed gratitude for FAO support to Uzbekistan and for the Organization’s presence in the country.

The Ambassador requested assistance from FAO to further diversify agricultural production for greater competitiveness on international markets. He emphasised in particular capacity building for organic agriculture.

The Director-General discussed the importance of developing value chains, including food safety which is critical for food security and enhanced trade. He also informed the Ambassador that FAO could provide support in connection with the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which calls upon countries to present nationally determined contributions.

Eshmirza Abdualimov, Head of the Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan, and Zakhid Salikhov, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, also participated in the meeting.
