Graziano Da Silva meets high level members of the Kenyan Ministry for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
 
26 August 2016, Nairobi – Graziano da Silva paid a courtesy visit on Willy Bett, Cabinet Secretary for agriculture of Kenya at the sidelines of the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-VI, 27-28 August, Nairobi).
 
The Director-General and the Cabinet Secretary together with the Senior team of the Kenyan Ministry for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries exchanged views on the longstanding support provided to the Kenyan government by FAO in policy development, in particular, for youth, agriculture, food security and nutrition, fisheries and aquaculture.
 
Willy Bett highlighted the importance of an overarching Agriculture Policy for Kenya to provide strategic direction and appreciated FAO support to policy processes. Furthermore, Bett stressed the government’s commitment to support youth and their integration in the agricultural sector and sub sectors such as aquaculture.
 
The discussion also tackled Peace and Food Security matters and the considerable role Kenya plays in the Eastern African region as a broker. The Director-General stressed the importance of addressing the impact of conflicts on food security and strengthening linkages between food security and peace.
