Meeting with Slovenia's Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food

Focus on vital role of pollinators for food security and promotion of World Bee Day

28 September 2016, Rome - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva today met Dejan Židan, Slovenia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Food, who was in Rome to attend the biannual meeting of FAO's Committee on Agriculture

During this visit to FAO, Minister Židan inaugurated the Slovenian exhibit ‘Bee World’, an outreach campaign launched by the country to propose that the United Nations declare the 20th of May as World Bee Day.

The exhibit inaugurated at FAO reflects the aim of the proposed Day, which is to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting bees and the beekeeping sector, and to shed light on the value of the apicultural products.
