Graziano da Silva meets Darine El Khatib, FAO Goodwill Ambassador for Zero Hunger in the Near East and North of Africa

Talks focus on food security challenges in conflict-hit and water scarce region

15 May 2017, Abu Dhabi - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva  today met  FAO's Zero Hunger Goodwill Ambassador for the Near East and North Africa (NENA), Darine El Khatib, for talks that focused on the food security challenges facing the region.

The discussion took place on the sidelines of the 9th session of the “Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation”ceremony held in Abu Dhabi.

El Khatib is a Lebanese journalist and a dedicated advocate of the Zero Hunger challenge in the region. In March 2017, she joined forces with FAOto help raise awareness on the increasing difficulties to achieve food security for all in a conflict-hit, water scarce and climate change-hit region.

In her role as a FAO’s Goodwill Ambassador for Zero Hunger, El Khatib  will help promote a better understanding of FAO's vision of a world free of hunger and malnutrition. .
