Talks with Zimbabwe’s Minister for Agriculture

Focus on drought and fall armyworm threats

1 July 2017, Rome - FAO Director-General today met Joseph Mtakwese Made, Minister for Agriculture, Mechanization and Irrigation Development of Zimbabwe, who was in Rome to attend FAO’s 40th Conference, the organization’s governing body which starts tomorrow.

Talks focused on the country’s drought problems. “I reminded the Director General that matters relating to climate and climate change are having a major impact in the agriculture strategies," he said in remarks following the meeting.

They also discussed FAO’s support to the country in tackling the fall armyworm, a migratory insect pest which has caused considerable damage to maize and small grain crops and pastures.
