Meeting with Ireland’s Minister of State for Food, Forestry and Horticulture

Exchanging views on the country’s sustainability programme Origin Green Promise

1 July 2017, Rome - FAO Director-General Jose Graziano da Silva today met with Ireland’s Minister of State for Food, Forestry and Horticulture, Andrew Doyle, in Rome to attend the organization’s 40th Conference.

FAO Director-General appreciate Ireland’s contribution to FAO’s regular programme as well as to projects such as FAO’s emergency support for vulnerable farm households in Syria, projects building agricultural value chains and reducing food loss and waste in Africa, and a number of initiatives on climate change and sustainable agriculture.

Both principals discussed the country’s Origin Green Promise, the only sustainability programme in the world that operates on a national scale, uniting government, the private sector and food producers through Bord Bia, the Irish Food Board.

It enables Ireland’s farmers and producers to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets – reducing environmental impact, serving local communities more effectively and protecting the extraordinarily rich natural resources.
