Food safety, climate change focus of Japan talks

FAO Director-General meets Japan’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries

7 July 2017, Rome – Food safety and climate change were the focus of talks between the FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva and Japan’s State Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Yosuke Isozaki. The meeting took place at FAO headquarters in Rome on the sidelines of the 40th session of the FAO Conference.

Japan has been an important resource partner to strengthen global food security.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Isozaki said there are strong cooperative links between FAO and Japan. “From the Japanese point of view our main interest is how to counter climate change and how to combat the food crises around the world,” he added.

Earlier this year, the Director-General visited Japan to affirm the strong partnership and praised the country as a global model for healthy diets.
