First meeting with new Jamaican Agriculture Minister

Talks centred on climate change and sustainable agriculture

7 July 2017, Rome – The FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva held his first meeting with Jamaica’s Minister for Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Karl Samuda, who assumed the office in 2016.

Mr Samuda was in Rome for the FAO Conference and said he appreciated hearing from fellow delegates from other countries about their activities and challenges to reach Zero Hunger.

During the bilateral meeting, the pair discussed sustainable agricultural development in the context of a changing climate.

“For us climate change is not a fiction, we have to live with the consequences of it on a daily basis,” Mr Samuda said afterwards.

He added that he felt confident about the future of FAO and Jamaica’s partnership.
