FAO Director-General meets Minister of Industry and Agroindustrial Compleх of the Eurasian Economic Commission

Both parties welcomed enhanced cooperation on animal and plant transboundary diseases

6 July 2017, Rome - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met today with Minister of Industry and Agroindustrial Compleх of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Sergey Sidorsky on the sidelines of the FAO’s governing Conference.

Director General da Silva and Minister Sidorsky expressed satisfaction with growing cooperation in the implementation of the 2015-18 joint Action Plan of the Memorandum of Understanding, initially signed in November 2013.

Both parties emphasized the importance of joint work in the field of transboundary animal and plant diseases in the EEC countries that are affecting the whole region and may aggravate under the impacts of climate change. 

For his part, the EEC Minister for Industry and Agroindustrial Development briefed the Director-General on the recent achievements in agricultural and rural development sector in the space of Eurasian Economic Union, emphasizing, in particular, the achievements in boosting agricultural production and enhancing export potential in key products and commodities, such as grain and milk.

Both sides also agreed to work together on translating and publishing FAO’s key information products and publications in Russian language for the use of Eurasian Union members to facilitate the transfer of expertise and knowledge to the region.
