Strengthening cooperation with the UAE: Abu Dhabi office, a technical hub for the Gulf Cooperation States and Yemen

Cooperation is renewed for 5 years

4 July 2017, Rome – FAO and the United Arab Emirates strengthen their partnership. FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva and H.E. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister for Climate, Change and Environment of the UAE, today signed an amendment to the agreement that was signed in 2008 for the establishment of FAO’s Subregional Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council States and Yemen.

The amendment renews the contribution of the UAE Government for another 5 years, with an expected yearly funding of USD 2 million.

Under its framework, FAO will provide technical and policy advice through a multidisciplinary team based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and composed of senior experts supported by experts from FAO Headquarters in Rome and the Regional Office in Cairo focusing on the following areas: plant production and protection, water management and irrigation, fisheries and aquaculture, livestock development, and economy and social development.

The office will be the technical hub for the Gulf Cooperation States and Yemen.

As country office for UAE, the team will engage with the UAE Government to determine a work programme (CPF) based on the Food Diversification Strategy which is presently being finalized by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the UAE and FAO.
