The document presents the discussions of the Ad hoc
Working Group of Experts in Food Safety of APFIC at its First Meeting in
Bangkok, Thailand, from 15 to 17 March 1999. The Working Group reviewed emerging
food safety hazards from aquaculture products. The problems of food-borne
parasites caused by fish consumption, especially on trematodes were discussed.
The research priorities for the study on pathogens in the aquatic environment
were also given. Subsequently, a regional workshop on research to prevent
fish-borne trematode infections was organized and its report was included as
Appendix 4 of this report. |
