SOURCES: FAO for indices. Rice prices: International rice brokers and trading companies. Vegetable oils prices: Ista Miekle & Co. "Oil World Weekly".
Note: The FAO Indices are calculated using the Laspeyres formula. The Rice Export Price Index is calculated for 15 export prices. In this table two groups representing "High" and "Low" quality rice are shown. In the Vegetable Oils Price Indices, Index "A" measures overall changes in prices expressed in U.S. dollars and Index "B" measures changes in prices expressed in importers' currencies. The basic prices are also the same for the two indices, those for the U.S. dollar price indices being the original quotations expressed in U.S. dollars, whereas those for the index of prices expressed in importers currencies are the same U.S. dollar quotations converted on the basis of a composite rate of exchange representing the average of the exchange rates into U.S. dollars of the currencies of main importing countries weighted by volume of imports.
