LIBERIA:

Following substantial rains in early July, precipitation decreased in late July and early August and resumed during the second and third dekads, notably in the north. Rice is growing satisfactorily in secure areas, as tools and agricultural inputs have been provided by rehabilitation programmes. However, in many areas, population displacements and figthing at the start of the growing season hampered significantly food production. The 1996 output will again remain limited and is not expected to recover from 1995’s level and the food supply will remain very tight in 1996/1997.
