GUINEA-BISSAU:

Reflecting abundant and widespread rains, crop conditions are satisfactory and a good harvest is in prospect. Abundant and regular rains have been received countrywide in August. Meteorological stations generally recorded falls exceeding 100mm per dekad (Bissau station recorded almost 300mm during the first dekad). Coarse grains are flowering/maturing. Swamp rice fields have been desalinated and transplanting is underway. Pastures are good. Some insect attacks are reported in the north. As areas planted to cereals increased significantly, following substitution from exportable crops cultivation, a good harvest is anticipated.
