THE GAMBIA:

Crop prospects improved in September. Following a late start of the season in July, rainfall was generally widespread and regular in August and September. Rains increased somewhat in early and mid-September. They decreased in late September but remained widespread. Crops are developing satisfactorily.

A joint FAO/CILSS Crop Assessment Mission is scheduled from 12 to 16 October to estimate the 1998 cereal production.
