MAURITANIA:

Regular rains since late June in the extreme south permitted widespread plantings. Following first showers in late June, rains increased during the first decade of July and progressed northwards during the second and third dekads. Wet plantings are widespread since the second decade of July. Crops are emerging satisfactorily.

Pastures are regenerating gradually in the centre and south-east. On 4 July, low numbers of solitary Desert Locust adults were seen north of Foum-Gleïta (M'Bout department). No other locusts were reported during the month. Low numbers of solitary adults are likely to be present in central and southern areas where they will lay eggs now that the summer rains have begun. No significant developments are likely.
