The onset of regular rains in late July permitted widespread maize plantings. Maize plantings progressed in the agricultural islands following the arrival of the rains in late July. Rains continued in early August and became more abundant in late August, notably on Fogo, Santo Antão and Santiago islands. However, precipitation remained generally below average. Crops are emerging satisfactorily and pastures are regenerating well.
