ANNEX 3
Brief description of SNV/NDO proposals on programmes in fishery and health

The fishery programme consists of laboratory assistance, extension and supply of inputs for small-scale fishermen and women.

Assistance in laboratory work includes fish stock assessment and a general limnological survey.

The extension and input supply programme has two components:

  1. extension and training (development of fishing gear and methods; development and creation of appropriate fish processing techniques; development of fish marketing infrastructure; intensification of fish conservation education and enforcement of fisheries regulations)

  2. input supply and training (boatbuilding, net-making, engine repair; fish wholesale)

The primary health care programme has three objectives:

  1. to establish a planning, monitoring and evaluation system for both the health management team and the health staff at the centre

  2. to ensure that a primary programme is implemented based on community diagnosis and in which the people of the community are fully involved.

  3. to initiate inter-sectoral co-operation, leading to integrated community development.
