Children’s perceptions of forests

I love the forest – I once went to visit a cave in the forest. The forest was very damp. I don’t think we should cut down the trees. Instead of cutting them down, it would be better if we grew more of them so we can have a lot of shade. And the more trees we have, the more animals there will be. And we should protect not only the forest but the rivers too. We should not throw any bad things into the rivers because it will make them very dirty. The forests will last a very long time if we help look after them.

I love the forest – I went on a trip to a forest and I saw many kinds of birds like parrots, mynahs and lots of others. We should look after the forest and nature. We should not cut down trees and hurt the forests. If we cut [trees] we should plant new ones. If we don’t have trees we won’t have the nice shade that they give us. Trees help hold on to the water when the rain falls. If we don’t have trees our houses will get flooded.

The forest is a very beautiful place, full of very pretty flowers.
All of the animals live very happily in the forest, the butterflies shine in the light of the sun. All the natural world has a rich aroma. I always ask God not to let them damage the forest, because the animals would be left without a home, and we without life.
