The Prosopis Society of India

During the Prosopis conference at the Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI) held from November 21-23, 1993, it was felt by the participants that there is an urgent need to bring all the Indian Prosopis researchers together to share their experiences and expertise in various aspects of Prosopis research. With the active support of Dr Peter Felker of Texas A&M University, Kingsville, Texas, USA, the Prosopis Society of India was formed on the eve of the plenary session of the conference. The Society was started with forty members. Today, PSI has one hundred registered members. The society is still in its infancy and the domain of activities is limited to exchange of information among members regarding the R&D activities taking place in various parts of India involving Prosopis species. The Society plans to publish a half-yearly newsletter ‘Prosopis News’ from 1998. It is also planned to form a network with Prosopis researchers in the USA, Europe and South America. The headquarters of the Society are in the Silviculture Section, CAZRI, Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India.

The Henry Doubleday Research Association

The Henry Doubleday Research Association was registered as a charity in 1958 with the aims of carrying out scientific research into, collating and disseminating information about, and promoting an interest in organic agriculture and food in the UK and overseas. Since 1985 the Association has also implemented a major international programme for sustainable forestry and agroforestry. In addition to its research, the Association also provides an advisory service for agriculture and forestry from its headquarters at Ryton Gardens, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry CV8 3LG, UK.
