This chapter reviews the practicalities of preparing and carrying out the fieldwork. Guidelines are suggested for field team composition, preparations and training, and for how to establish the field site. Then follows a step by step recommendation for carrying out data collection. Plot data and interview data are the two main sources of information and requires different methodological approach. The plot data section describes the protocols and techniques of measuring and carrying out the plot inventory. The interview data section describes the main methodological focus for carrying out interviews and identifying informants.
