“TESTING OF TROPICAL AND SUBTROPICAL TREE SEED”

The Forest Tree and Shrub Seed Committee (FTSSC) of the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) is preparing a handbook on testing of tropical and subtropical tree seed for the benefit of tropical tree seed testers. The handbook will contain practical guidelines for seed testing and seed handling by species and, where necessary, by provenance. Through a survey sent to existing seed laboratories, seed centres etc. the FTSSC will identify the main species being tested, collect seed data and gather information on dormancy breakage and germination. In addition, the effect (if any) of provenance on testing method will be determined. The handbook will be published in 1995, probably in the form of a loose leaf handbook in order to ensure continued inclusion of new species and updating after 1995.
