Comparison of FRA2000 forest canopy density (displayed in red in the RGB composite) with MRLC derived forest canopy density (displayed in green and blue in the RGB composite) in the conterminous U.S. The MRLC map was derived by recoding the three forested classes (see Appendix 1 for MRLC classes) to forest and the rest of the classes to nonforest, and then aggregating 30-meter pixels to corresponding 1 km pixels. Areas of agreement by the two maps are in shades from black to white depending on estimated canopy density. Areas of red show the FRA2000 map as more forested and the MRLC map as less forested, whereas shades of cyan indicate the MRLC map as more forested and the FRA2000 map as less forested.
