Vegetation description

The mangrove area in these islands is not extensive; there is a fringe of mangroves, consisting of Rhizophora mangle and Avicennia germinans, in parts of the Simpson Bay Lagoon on St. Martin, although most have been destroyed by extensive tourism developments.

No major changes appear to have taken place over the last twenty years. The 1980, 1990 and 2000 estimates have been slightly rounded.
