Seychelles

Vegetation description

Mangrove forests are well developed in the Seychelles. Fringing coastal communities are found on the coasts of Mahé, Curieuse, Praslin, La Digue and Silhouette and there are some fairly large areas in the lagoons of Alabra and Cosmoledo. The mangrove species spread in these islands are: Avicennia marina, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Ceriops tagal, Lumnitzera racemosa, Rhizophora mucronata, Sonneratia alba and Xylocarpus granatum, Pemphis acidula and Acrostichum aureum. There are four protected areas with mangroves in the Seychelles.
