Tschakert of the University of Arizona (the United States of America) in collaboration with A. Warren of University College London (the United Kingdom). The information for the Kenya and Nigeria case studies was supplied by M. Mortimore and M. Tiffen, Drylands Research, Crewkerne, (the United Kingdom); the India case study utilized data collected by B. Adolph and J. Butterworth of the Natural Resources Institute, Chatham (the United Kingdom), in association with the Deccan Development Society, Hyderabad and Pastapur (India), and the BAIF Institute of Rural Development, at Tiptur and Lakihalli (India). Details of the Argentinian systems were provided by E. Rienzi of the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina). The Senegal case study is based on the work of P. Tschakert.
