This document contains the final version of the Report of the Sixth Session of the Commission on Inland Fisheries for Latin America (COPESCAL), held in Lima, Peru, from 27 to 31 May 1991.

SUMMARY

This document presents the final report of the Sixth Meeting of the Commission on Inland Fisheries for Latin America (COPESCAL), held in Lima, Peru, from 27 to 31 May 1991. The main subjects discussed by the Commission refer to: socio-economic aspects of artisanal fishermen and the role of women and youth in fishing communities; exploitation and conservation of fisheries resources; adoption of a Code of Practices for the introduction of exotic species; information service for marketing of aquacultural products; legislation for inland fisheries and aquaculture in the countries of the Region and management of hydrobiological resources in the Amazon basin. The list of participants and the updated list of National Correspondents of COPESCAL are included in this report as Appendixes A and D, respectively. A synthesis of the main conclusions and recommendations for the attention of FAO and/or the Governments, is presented as Appendix F to this report.
