The present recommended unit rate is k.1.00.
The factors considered in the rents are:

Factor | |||
Lakes | 10 | ||
Stream Class 3 or 5 | 1 | ||
Stream Class 1 | 5 | ||
Stream Class 2 or 4 | 10 | ||
These classes are related to surface water use as follows:
1 | Irrigation | ||
2 | Potable water | ||
3 | Industrial water supply
4 | Fisheries | ||
5 | Waste disposal |
(ii) | Constituent of the effluent (mg/l)

Total dissolved solids | 500 | 1
Total dissolved solids | 500 | 1/500 of concentration
Toxins | 1 | 1 | ||||
Toxins | 1 | 2 × concentration |
N.B. Effluents which are wholly storm water shall be rated O. Effluents in which all parameters 1 to 4 are factored at 1 shall be rated O.
(iii) | Quantity of effluent (m3/day)
Factor | ||
5 | 1 | |
5 | 1/5 quantity |
(iv) | Dry weather flow dilution

Receiving stream, class 3 | 1 |
Quantity of effluent, 5 m3/day | 1 |
Quality of effluent BOD, 20 mg/l | 1 |
DWF Dilution, 10:1 | |
The product = 1 × 1 × 1 × 1 = 1
The effluent is rated O | |
Example 2 | |
Factor | |
Quantity of effluent, 45 m3/day | 1/5 × 45 = 9 |
Quality of effluent BOD, 22 mg/l | 1/10 × 22 = 2.2 |
