ANNEX I

Project Title : Enhancement of Farm Youth Network for Agricultural Career

Duration       : One year

Project site    : Thailand and Korea

Implementing agency : Department of Agricultural Extension (DOAE), Thailand

According to its responsibilities to help farm youth, the DOAE can act as a core agency for agricultural development and provide actual benefit to their family and community which results in stability of occupation, economy as a whole. This function relates to the concept of Integration of Population Education Programs, therefore the DOAE proposed to launch a farm youth agricultural extension project which titled "Enhancement of Farm Youth Network for Agricultural Career". The main tasks of the project are :    

1)  To increase productivity and work opportunities in agricultural sector by instigating training, exchange programs and workshops.

2)  To introduce farm youth to a wide range of activities in agriculture and related field including network building in order to prepare them for self-development.

Project activities will include 1) workshop to discuss existing activities of 4-H clubs and to introduce participants to important ideas, 2) exchange visits for farm youth, and 3) training programs. Details are as follows :

a)  Workshop

Purpose : To bring together farm youth leaders to exchange views of farm youth issues and agricultural activities and family planning, drugs, HIV for farm youth development. 
Details : - Farm youth leaders will participates in the workshop which is organized by DOAE, Thailand.
- Place : Bangkok
- Time : June 2001, duration of 3 days
- Participants : 50 farm youth
Expected result :  Improvement of agricultural activities, farm youth network and relationship among farm youth leaders. 
Cost : approximate US $ 2,000

b)  Agricultural activity Improvement

Purpose : To provide appropriate farming technologies and to improve club's activities
Details : To improve agricultural activities of 4 Yuwakasetkorn groups (4-H clubs)
- Organized by DOAE
- Place   : Udonthani province
: Surin province
: Buriram province
: Ratchaburi province
- Time : July to December 2001
Expected result :  Be the center of farm youth gathering where 4-H members can gain knowledge and skills on cultivation of crops, animals, fisheries and other agriculture related occupation for building up better quality of life continuously.
Cost : Approximate US $ 1,600

c)      Training

Purpose : To provide training for Lao and Thai farm youth in new farming technologies and relationship between countries.
Details : - Lao and Thai farm youth will be trained in new farming technologies such as cut-flowers, food preservation, vegetables, integrated farming, family planning, drugs and HIV.
- Organized by the DOAE
- Place :  Udonthani province
Buriram province
Surin province
Ratchaburi province
- Time : First group in August, 17 days
  Second group in November, 17 days
- Participants : 9 farm youth in each group (6 Lao, 3 Thai)
Expected result : Through knowledge and skill attained from the training, farm youth will be prepared for their occupation, self-employment and better standard of living.
Cost : Approximate US $ 4,000 (US $ 2,000 for one group). The cost of training includes especially per diem, supplies and materials, training kits, honorarium for resource speakers and contingencies.

d)     Exchange visits

Purpose : To allow Thai and Korean farm youth to participate in youth events in other country.
Details : - Korea 4-H Federation requested International Farm Youth Exchange Program (IFYE) with Thailand. The DOAE agreed to try the program to see if it is useful to both countries.
- Organized by the DOAE, Thailand and 4-H Federation, Korea.
- Place :  Thailand and Korea
- Time : Thai farm youth visit Korea in November 2001, 2 weeks and Korean farm youth visit Thailand in September 2001, 2 weeks. 
- Participants :  4 farm youth from each country. 
Expected result : Widen experiences of personnel and 4-H members of Thailand and Korea. 

-    Relationship of the two countries. 

Cost :

Approximate cost US $ 2,500

1)

 Round trip tickets for 4 Thai farm youth leaders, US $ 1,600

2)

 Board and lodging for 4 Korean farm youth leaders including miscellaneous US $ 900.

e)     Administrative supports

Purpose : To implement and coordinate all project activities.
Details :  The office supplies, monitoring and final report. 
Expected result :  The objective of the project will be achieved.
Cost :  Approximate US $ 455
Total cost of the project is US $ 10,555
