Sample Population Education Facilitator Position Description

Position Description:

This position is a (twelve) ^* month volunteer facilitator appointment with (name  of responsible organization). The facilitator will provide creative and sensitive non-formal population education experiential learning activities for small groups (11 - 21) of rural out-of-school (mixed gender) youth groups (ages 18-26) from (geographic area) . The facilitator will be a member of the (geographic area) Population Education Project Team and will work closely with the Project and (name   of responsible   organization).

Responsibilities:

• Serve as an active member of the (insert specific name of project) team.
• Complete Population Education Facilitator Training conducted by (name  of sponsor).
• Recruit rural out-of-school youth to participate in the population education program. Recruit resource people to present curriculum content topics.
• Organize population education group meeting schedules and arrange for a places for group meetings.
• Facilitate guide group interaction, guide learning experiences, develop positive learning environments and trust among and between the group members, the facilitator, and the resource people.
• Encourage active participation by all members within the group.
• Use Experiential Learning Model for population education activities.
• Evaluate and report impact outcomes to (name  of sponsoring organization).
•  Interact with media and community organizations and leaders to promote the program.

Qualifications:

• Secondary education completed or equivalent related experience.
• Commitment to experiential learning (learn-by-doing) methods.
• Interest, knowledge, and concern about youth and population education issues.
• Active community involvement and/or service.
• Willing to serve as a role model and mentor for youth.
• Highly energetic, creative, enthusiastic, flexibility, and a good sense of humor.
• Willingness to learn from experience, try new approaches, and solve problems.

Skills:

• Ability to guide discussions on personal and sensitive issues and relate well to youth.
• Willingness to share philosophy and personal experiences as a role model and mentor to youth learners.
• Ability to follow and creatively adapt curriculum activities for experiential learning for youth groups.
• Skilled in:multiple priority management, organization, leadership, and communications.

Benefits:

• Facilitator Stipend ($100) (if appropriate given funding and policy).
• Expenses for transportation, training program, and supplies and materials to implement the Population Education Curriculum Project will be paid by (name   of sponsoring  organization).
• Recognition for service to youth and community.
• Gain expertise and skills in youth development, teaching/group process, assessing community needs, and subject area expertise in population education issues.
