Abstract

The first-ever Asia-Pacific Forestry Week, convened in Hanoi, Viet Nam from 21 to 26 April 2008, was a landmark event bringing together a diverse cross-section of voices and stakeholders from the Asia-Pacific forestry sector. Comprising a large number of events housed under the same roof, the week succeeded in fostering synergies, enthusiasm and an overall spirit of cooperation. The Week was intended to speak to the need for greater coherence among the various forestry-related issues and actions, and serve as a shared forum through which some of the most pressing challenges of our generation might be addressed. The Hanoi-hosted Week was a virtual kaleidoscope of diverse issues – woven together by a common theme: the interactions between forests and people of the region. This resulting publication is a testimony to the varied voices, perspectives and insights that emerged over the week.
