Abstract

As embedded in its Constitution, FAO’s mandate is to raise the level of nutrition and standard of living of the people, secure sustainable improvements in efficiency of production and distribution of food and agricultural products, improve the condition of the rural population, contribute to an expanding world economy and ensure humanity’s sustainable freedom from hunger. In this context, the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific set out to translate FAO’s strategic objectives into five regional priority issues which are (a) strengthening food and nutritional security, (b) fostering agricultural production and rural development, (c) enhancing equitable, productive and sustainable natural resource management and utilization, (d) improving capacity to respond to food and agricultural threats and emergencies and (e) coping with the impact of climate change on food and agriculture. This publication sets out the regional priorities for the region in detail to 2019 and the implementation strategy for achieving the results.
