ABSTRACT

This publication reports the proceedings of the thirty-fifth session of the Animal Production and Health Commission for Asia and the Pacific (APHCA) convened from 2 to 4 November 2011 in Cebu City, Philippines. The session outlined elements of a response to address the challenges faced by the livestock sector in Asia and the Pacific, taking into account the region’s socio-economic and cultural dimensions. Major themes considered were: the changing character of the Asian food economy and the emerging role of livestock, the emerging structure of livestock production and implications for management of natural resources and the environment, and the complexities of animal-human-ecosystems interface in Asia and the Pacific and the way forward. Key recommendations that emerged are included in the report.
