ABSTRACT

A report of the thirty-first World Food Day celebration held at the FAO regional office in Bangkok in commemoration of the Organizationís founding in 1945. This yearís theme focused on food prices Ė from crisis to stability, to shed light on a trend that is hurting the poor consumer, the small producer and agriculture in general. Highlights of the day include a keynote speech on the theme of the celebration by Dr Supachai Panitchpakdi, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and presentation of five awards to outstanding farmers from Japan, the Lao Peopleís Democratic Republic, the Maldives, Papua New Guinea and Thailand by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
