Stenner double bandsaw. - Designed to take logs from 4-12 in (10-30 cm) in diameter and up to 20 ft (6m) long, this new machine comprises two bandsaw units with 36 in (90 cm) diameter saw wheels carrying saws 3 in (7.5 cm) wide. Mounted on slides to allow adjustment of the distance between the saw blades. Electric setting facilitated by a large dial indicating the dimensions to operator. Taking two cuts at one time permits the machine to work at a relatively low feed speed and makes a thin narrow sawblade acceptable with consequent reduction of sawkerf wastage. A feature of the new machine is the log feed. A chain equipped with detachable lugs, equally spaced, conveys the log through the saws, a process which is almost continuous. All operations are carried out by one operator with pushbutton controls.

Scott Smith sonic moisture detector. - Moisture in some materials results in an increase on the electrical conductivity of the material. Moisture contents can thus be compared electrically rather than by laborious comparison of wet and dry weights. Detector is accurate to a 1 percent variation in timber moisture content, and covers moisture ranges of 16 to 30 percent.
