Fire shelter. - Shelter provides a reflective barrier against radiant heat but is not designed to withstand direct flame contact. It is carried in belt pack.

Jukka skidding grapple. - Basic unit can be mounted with a swivel joint on the rear axle of most frame-steered forest tractors. Grapple hangs from the frame with a ball joint. Frame can be tilted backward or forward, and the grapple opened and closed hydraulically by two valves in tractor's cab.

Tree pusher. - Manufactured for use with the Caterpillar D6C, this new attachment is easy to instal and detach. The tilt cylinder locks the tree pusher to the dozer blade. The blade may be tilted with tree pusher attached for more effective use when cutting roots of larger trees before felling them.

Highland county skidder. -Basic unit is a tractor with a 75 b.h.p. diesel engine and. four-wheel drive. Winches are mounted immediately behind the cab and are operated from the driver's seat. Three winches are available -double drum winch, hydraulic operated double drum winch and four drum winch. When fitted with a tower, cable vane operations up to 400 yards (3 650 m) can be undertaken. Pull capacity with drum 4 tons, with hydraulic winch 6 tons.

The ILON bogie. -Bogie climbs over vertical obstacles higher than the wheel axles. On a conventional bogie the case is suspended in a centre of oscillation placed between the wheels, quite often straight between or somewhat over the wheel centres. The ILON bogie, however, is suspended in two centres of oscillation carried within the case and trisecting the distance between the wheel centres. The centres of oscillation are joined by two links, stored in the frame of the trailer in such way that they together form a triangle with a pole between the wheel centres and the ground.

Tire protectors. - These cord-reinforced rubber interlays, fitted between pneumatic cover and tube, react to sharp objects that penetrate the cover by deflecting but not holing, so that on the next turn of the wheel the object is either ejected or bent over to lie harmlessly between tire and protector.

Portable winch. - Winch weighs only 21 lb (9.5 kg) but can exert a pull of 800 lb (363 kg) on a single line. It is powered by a fuel-lubricated 1-tap, 2-cycle gasoline engine, and can be run in any position-upright, on its side or upside-down, if necessary. Any size rope or cable may be used, and the winch is easily secured by passing its sturdy chain around a tree, port or other anchor.

Timberjack skidder grapple - Capacity 1 to l i/2 cord (2.6 to 3.8 m³) tree length. All controls are in front of operator, who can carry out any operation without leaving the cab. 100 in (254 cm) grapple opening; 360° continuous hydraulic rotation; 4-way boom control (raise, lower, forward and back). Grapple closer small enough to retain 5 1/2 in (14 cm) diameter logs and reaches 30 in (76 cm) below ground level.

Heavy duty safely canopy. - The Fleco heavy duty canopy is constructed of extra strong square tubing. The roof plate is 3/16 in (< 5 mm) thick alloy steel, and a 1/4 in (6.4 mm) woven wire covers the sides and rear opening. Sufficient headroom is provided for the operator, and the exits have a minimum clearance of 52 in (132 cm).

Massey-Fergusson 220 skidder. - Principal features are an 80-hp diesel engine, 4-wheel drive articulated frame, 2 independent brake systems, 8 speeds forward and 8 reverse, 22 000 lb (10 000 kg) winch, easily adjustable arch with three positions, and a safety canopy. With standard 16.9 by 30 tires, ground clearance is 18 in (46 cm) and loaded radius is 27 in (68 cm), larger tires can be fitted as optional equipment.

Irrometer soil moisture meter. -The Irrometer covers the entire range of soil moistures required for maximum growth. It operates on the tensionometer principle, consisting of a sealed water-filled tube with a vacuum gauge and a porous tip which is inserted to the desired root zone depth. In dry soil water is drawn out of the instrument, creating a partial vacuum which is registered on -the gauge. In wet soil the reverse happens. The instrument is available in standard lengths from 6 to 60 in (1.5 to 150 cm) for use at appropriate root depths.
