The Technical Consultation underlined the potential synergy between FAO and CITES and, recognizing the important contribution of commercial fisheries to food security and of avoiding false alarms and misses, both of which affected this source of food and employment, emphasized the importance of CITES using criteria and guidelines which were both robust and accurate.
40. The Consultation agreed on a set of points to be considered by COFI as a basis for possible recommendations to FAO Members, the Secretariat and CITES. These points are given in Appendix E.
