ICELAND LEGISLATION
General prohibition against fishing by foreign vessels within fishery limits, except under bilateral agreements.
(Regulations concerning fishery limits off Iceland of 15 July art. 2, Law No. 41 of 1 June 1979 concerning the territorial sea, the EEZ and the continental shelf)
-Total allowable catch shall be determined by Minister of Fisheries and fishing permits to comply with these catch limitations. (Art. 2)
-No one can undertake commercial fishing in Icelandic waters without general fishing permit. (Art. 4)

AGREEMENTS
Agreement under exchange of letters of 1992 between EEC and Iceland concerning fisheries
-Fishing possibilities for EEC vessels: 3 000 t. of red fish
Fisheries Agreement between EEC and Iceland of 1993 valid for 10 years unless notice given
-Fishing activities may be subject to granting of licences after selection of applicants.
-Vessel to comply with conservation and monitoring measures related to fishing zone.
-Observer on board can be requested.

LEGISLATION
-Daily reports to be made on position. (1975 Agreement with German Federal Republic, 1976 Agreement with Norway)
-Fisheries statistics to be forwarded to Fisheries Association of Iceland in prescribed form and manner.

* = Country is a part to the South Pacific FFA arrangement which stipulates that licences will not be issued to foreign fishing vessels unless those vessels are listed in good standing on the FFA - maintained regional register of fishing vessels .
