Rural development international workshop

Rural Development Division

FAO - Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

Gödöllö Hungary
9-15 April 1996

The information contained in this publication - the result of a workshop for young experts in rural development and agrarian reform - offers a unique global view of changes that have taken place in the developing world since the end of the cold war. Through the national and regional case studies that were presented at the workshop, as well as the reports from the workshop's round table discussions, it is possible to develop a greater understanding of the reaction to those changes.

The success of the workshop and the preparation of this publication owe much to the efforts of

Gustavo Gordillo
DIRECTOR
RURAL DEVELOPMENT DIVISION (SDA)

Hans Meliczek
TECHNICAL COORDINATOR

Angela Hilmi
WORKSHOP COORDINATOR

and the participation of SDA Service Chiefs, Jim Riddell and Jennie Dey Abbas, and previous-Service Chief, Nadia Forni, and with the assistance of Rina D'Agostino-Bellei and Kristina Hasselman.

SDA also gratefully acknowledges the hospitality extended by the University of Gödöllö, the excellent organization and efficiency of Mr. L. Kulcsár, Professor and Chair, Department of Rural Sociology, and Mr. I. Madarász, Associate Professor, Department of Rural Sociology, as well as the kind support given by the University students.
