Evaluation is an essential tool for both participants and Facilitator and the rest of the workshop staff. Through the process of evaluation participants will have another opportunity to use their analytical skills as they reflect on their learning processes as well as what they actually have acquired or not acquired in terms of knowledge, attitudes and skills. The evaluation process, gives the workshop staff, especially the Facilitator a tool and system of checking whether the learning process is truly occurring for both the participants as well as the workshop staff. The workshop staff, needs reflect on their own process of learning as well as the evaluation process gives them this opportunity. In more immediate and practical terms, the workshop staff needs this "feedback" mechanism to be able to respond appropriately to the more immediate needs of the participants. It is through these feedback where corrective actions could be taken immediately where and when needed. When things are going well, the workshop staff will be validated in their efforts and thus increase their sense of confidence.
There are two systems being introduced in this workshop. They are (a) the "quick or instant" type of evaluation called the "Learning Temperature Chart" and (b) the more methodical and in-depth questionnaire after each Module. Note however that the tools or instruments designed in this Manual are only for Modules I - 3. By the time participants are into Module 4, the feedback or evaluative element will be captured through the "Wrap-Up of the Workshop" and the "Closing Ceremonies".
The Learning Temperature Chart
This Chart is reproduced in Newsprint, so that participants can mark their assessment after each Activity every day. Although the impact of this is shallow compared to the in-depth questionnaire this serves two purposes: (a) it gives the participants a tool to register their more immediate response to the Activity and (b) it gives them and the workshop staff another tool to share a sense of fun in their work.
This could be useful both for Field Workers and rural women as well.
The In-Depth Questionnaire
At the end of Modules I - 3, Questionnaires have been designed to systematically capture the participants' reflections on a given module. This is particularly useful for the workshop for Field Workers. This could be too much or unnecessary for participants in women's groups.
These In-Depth Questionnaires are found at the back of this Manual.
The Use of Folk Art In Evaluation
This could be useful for both Field Worker and rural women's workshops. Participants are simply asked to form into groups and are asked to discuss among themselves to determine 3 4 important insights they have gained from the preceding Module. They are asked to use a symbol or drawing to express their ideas.
